Hopefully this article gets to the people that are scratching their heads on how to choose a good web hosting provider.
1. Google.com, Bing.com, and Yahoo.com, the term "web hosting providers". Your going to get tons of them. What I want you to do is look for duplicate hosting providers across the 3 search engines. Look in the organic listings(the listing that do not say sponsored). Compile a list of 10. Look in the sponsored listings. Compile 2 or 3 that are across multiple search engines. Now look and see if any of the sponsored listings are in your list of 10 organic listings. If so, put a star buy them. These are companies that we we will be paying close attention to.
2. Reconnaissance
Go to each of the websites, and select the ones that look appealing. Look for words like free, and unlimited, these words can be very misleading, with hidden fees, and long-term contracts. Select a the ones that you like and put a star next to them.
3. Out of those sites, look for a contact phone number. No phone number, no good. Your going to be communicating through email and ticketing systems. Make sure the phone number is on the front page. Remember that you get what you pay for. If the web host is offering packages at $1.99, your probably not going to be satisfied with the service.
4. Read The Terms of Service -
Before signing up, read the terms. I don't care how long and boring it is. They purposely make them that way. There might be things in there that will make you want to switch to a different host, only you find out after you signed up, and now your legally bound to a 1 year contract.
